Masters of Art Homage to Henri Matisse Limited Edition 161 Fountain Pen

$31,500.00
Great artists throughout history have expressed the human experience in a universal language of form and beauty. The Montblanc Masters of Art Collection honors their eternal contribution to the quest for perfection in art – a quest Montblanc both celebrates and participates in. Henri Matisse is a pivotal figure in the art world of the 20th century, whose revolutionary handling of artistic media helped set the tone for modern art. Acknowledging with respect the pioneering achievement of this distinguished and fascinating French artist, Montblanc has created the Masters of Art Homage to Henri Matisse Limited Edition 161. This edition is inspired by Matisse's transformative journey to Tahiti in 1930, a period that ignited a new inspirational phase in his career. The fountain pen commemorates his artwork Window in Tahiti, reflecting the island's lasting impression on his artistic vision. During his time in Tahiti, Matisse absorbed the natural environment, drawing and taking photographs, which later influenced his designs. The cap, crafted from partly blackened Ag 925 sterling silver, features a skillful 3D recreation of a hand-engraving that brings to life elements from Matisse's Window in Tahiti, showcasing the trees and boat he observed from his hotel room in Papeete. The barrel, made from cocobolo wood, is engraved and coated with translucent lacquer, featuring a geometric pattern based on a traditional design from a ceremonial tapa cloth, reminiscent of the tapa cloth Matisse brought back from Tahiti. The solid Au 750 rose gold cap top features the Montblanc emblem made of paua shell, renowned for its mesmerizing, iridescent colours, as beautiful as the ocean from which it derives. The hand-crafted, solid Au 750 rose gold, partly rhodium-coated nib is embossed with the Greek Phi symbol, representing the golden ratio, which inspired the limitation of the edition to 161 pieces. Details from his work Polynesia, the Sky adorn the nib, while the rose gold-coated clip and the engravings on the solid Au 750 rose gold cone echo the organic shapes of Matisse's cut-out, The Sheaf.
